the Centre

Introduction

Welcome to the Beaches Arts & Heritage Centre, located in the town of Eastport, one of Newfoundland & Labrador’s picturesque destinations. We are a year round cultural and performing arts centre, offering a wide variety of performances, concerts and festivals, visual art exhibits, presentations and workshops.

Our state of the art facility was opened in June, 2001, under the stewardship of the Eastport Peninsula Heritage Society; it is a historic building that engenders great sentiment for many residents of our community. Constructed in the early 20th century, the property has originally served as a school for many years. When the school closed in 1968, the property evolved as the key venue for cultural arts and entertainment shows, from summer drama festivals to a privately operated movie theatre.

Today it is home to a thriving arts community, and includes:

  • annual events such as Sheila's Brush - the mid-March Paddy's Day show, the traditional Canada Day Weekend, the annual Roy Babstock Beaches Accordion Festival, the Winterset in Summer Literary Festival, the Country Music Weekend and much more.
  • a full array of concerts and plays throughout the May to October season
  • select shows from the provincial Arts & Culture Centre tours
  • and the home of the Eastpen Players, our very popular local community theatre troupe.

The Beaches Arts & Heritage Centre means a great deal to the residents of the many regional communities that surround us. There is great pride in how bright our cultural beacon has shone, casting both a warm glow over our natural, artistic and cultural heritage and providing a sound foundation to guide future generations. It has wowed our spirits, and it will wow yours. Come and see for yourself.
